5/12: Avalon Ball

This Saturday, I join Dean Mora and the Avalon Ball Dance Orchestra singing songs of the 1930s and 40s with fellow vocalists Kayre Morrison, Adam Tunney and Johnny Holiday at the 10th Annual Avalon Ball, presented by The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles:

"Now in it's 10th year, the Avalon Ball is an fantastic journey into the past when Big Bands played for huge audiences which were broadcast to the nation in the Art Deco Casino Ballroom built in 1929 and located in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island.

Completely restored just a few years ago, the ballroom retains its original romantic style--a lavish medley of rose-hued walls, an arching, fifty-foot ceiling with five Tiffany chandeliers, an elevated stage, raised seating areas around the dance floor, and a vintage, full-service bar in back."

Ferry tickets can be purchased through Catalina Express.
For tickets and more information, visit the Art Deco Society website.

12/6-7: In the Holiday Mood

IN THE HOLIDAY MOOD
Big Band Concert
Featuring:

December 6 & 7, 2011
7:30 - 9:30 PM

Big band revivalists Dean Mora & His Orchestra, who played a sold-out show at the Colony Theatre earlier this year, return for a program of '30s and '40s-style festive favorites that run from "Sing, Sing, Sing" and "White Christmas" to "Moonlight Serenade," "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and more, Mora's 20-piece dance orchestra will create a lively, nostalgic mood that's steeped in tradition but infused with fresh energy. In addition to their celebrated earlier appearance at the Colony, Dean Mora & His Orchestra have played popular shows at numerous high-profile venues -- including the Hollywood Derby, Hollywood Palladium, Biltmore Hotel, Orpheum Theatre and the Jazz Bakery -- since the group's formation in 2006. Featured vocalists include Kayre Morrison, Damon Kirsche, Johnny Holiday and The Lindy Sisters!
